The Deputy Presidential Press Secretary, Farouk Kirunda, has announced that President Museveni will address the nation today (Thursday, July 13, 2023).
The address, which will take place at 8pm on all media platforms, comes at a time when quite a number of developments have happened, including the alleged ADF attack and killing of over 40 people at a school in Kasese midway through last month.
The President is therefore expected to address the nation on the current state of national security. This could also include the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) gradual pullout from war-torn Somalia.
The address also comes at a time when two road accidents involving two high-profile individuals occurred in a space of less than a week.
There have been several calls from different Government officials, including the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, about road safety. The Speaker called on the Government to implement the Road Safety Act. The President is also expected to give an address on this.
There have also been two by-elections that have been conducted in both Bukedea district and Oyam North, where allegations of election intimidation and fraud came up.
The President ordered the State House Anti-Corruption Unit to investigate the alleged electoral chaos in the LC V by-election in Bukedea district.
The district’s resident district commissioner and district police commander have since been arrested following accusations of their failure to prevent the chaos. Museveni is expected to give an address on this.
The diplomatic visit of Iranian President Sayyid Ebrahim Raisolsadati is also expected to be at the top of the agenda.
The Iranian President was on an official visit to Uganda yesterday, and the two Presidents (Museveni and him) discussed quite a number of issues, including Uganda’s oil production potential.
